6 Best (Heterosexual) Sex Positions for Minimal Pain During Intercourse

First thing to keep in mind is that when women are aroused, our body goes into a physiological response: our vaginal vault increases, our pelvic floor muscles relax, and our skene’s glands provide us with a wonderful and delicious biological lubricant. If we are just really not in the mood, our body may not be doing the physiological changes necessary for pain free intercourse.

  1. On top - In a heterosexual physical relationship, if the woman is on top, she can control depth and speed of penetration. A device known as the ‘OH NUT’ is a cool tool that can be placed on the shaft of the penis and can be set to different settings to dictate depth of penetration while still giving pleasure to the male partner.

  2. Reverse cowgirl - similar to previously mentioned position; being on top gives the woman more control of depth based off of her comfortability level. Most of the nerve endings are in the head of the penis, so the male should still be able to have adequate stimulation with decreased depth if desired by the female partner.

  3. Sidelying - this position slightly changes the angle of the vaginal vault, allowing for a slightly less penetrative depth. This position is also optimal for clitoral stimulation!

  4. Stomach lying - while lying on your stomach and partner behind/on top of you. This position will also slightly decrease penetrative depth and can also allow for self or partner facilitated clitoral stimulation. You can also scream/moan into the pillow as loud as you want so that’s a plus.

  5. On her back with a pillow under hips - if you're experiencing deep, deep penetrative pain, as if the penis is hitting a roadblock, your cervix may be getting penetrated. Lying on your back with a pillow underneath your hips can change the angle and decrease pain.

  6. Non-penetrative intercourse - sex can look very different for lots of couples! It is so healthy and fun to mix it up. Try oral sex (‘69’, sit on his face girl - just try it), using your own hands/partner’s hands, or toys/vibrators.

Don’t forget the lubrication and remember that you are worthy of pain free glorious orgasmic sexual intimacy.
